The development history of box-type substation

Box-type substations are suitable for residential areas, urban public transformers, bustling downtown areas, construction power supplies, etc. Users can choose box-type transformers according to different usage conditions and load levels. Box-type substations have developed extremely rapidly since their advent. They have accounted for 70% of distribution transformers in developed European countries and 90% in the United States. With the rapid development of China's urban modernization construction and the continuous updating and transformation of urban distribution networks, they will surely be widely used.
For box-type substations, China has introduced and imitated box-type substations from France, Germany and other countries since the late 1970s. The structure adopts high and low voltage switch cabinets and transformer composition. This box-type transformer is called European box-type transformer, which is figuratively compared to building a house for high and low voltage switch cabinets and transformers. Since the 1990s, China has introduced American box-type substations. In terms of structure, the load switch, ring network switch and fuse structure are simplified and placed in the transformer oil tank and immersed in oil. The lightning arrester also uses oil-immersed zinc oxide lightning arrester. The transformer eliminates the oil pillow, and the oil tank and radiator are exposed to the air. This type of box transformer is called an American box transformer, which can be figuratively described as a box hung next to the transformer.
